As you all know I work with a non-profit called Latinos in Action, well their annual conference is coming up in March which I am very exited about.
I was asked to come up with kind of a teaser poster/image, the name of this years conference is "Heroes Among Us", when I say heroes what comes to my mind are SUPER heroes, so I thought why not make it as a Comic theme, I created the logo and an image hopefully students, teachers, and the LIA staff like my idea.

Religion, Fe, y Cultura!
Today, Juan Diego
Back home (in Mexico) today is known as "El Dia de La Virgen" and I am not gonna go into details of how, where and why we celebrate this day, all im going to say is I am loyal to my faith, and I love my culture, so here it is!
Again the same shape for my characters, i might have missed some shading but I was runing out of time, I got the roses from a stock vector site, everything else its mine.
remember to visit my portfolio at: www.yeko.co.uk
Going back to creating characters with shapes, and after almost a week of not coming up with anything new, I give you POLECIA.
Its suppose to be Policia, but back home people who are stereotypical from a lower class or considered not educated use pronounce the word like this.
This guy is a clingy cop from Yekotitlan the name of a town I invented.

This morning I was more than committed to designing a permanent logo once and for all, but the outcome wasn't what I expected.
I love the colors, and I think that's what I am gonna stick with, the target was to go for that Japanese-ish look, the white in the middle its suppose to be a Y, but it ended up looking a lot like the Adobe Flash logo (i think) I also got someone else's opinion and they said it looked a lot like an office logo, and the 3d wasn't very convincing, and I kinda agree, so since i didn't want these three samples to go to waste AND since I will probably play video games with my son the rest of the afternoon, i wont have time to make another one, but I am hoping to have one by monday.
El Maistro (the mechanic) Its suppose to be El Mecanico which actually means The Mechanic but Maistro is what we call them back home, some....
SUPER SIMPLE!
thats what I usually aim for, and to be honest i think this one is one of my favorites, i think i just found the shape for all my characters.
This guy is wearing his nice blue coveralls, and his yeko clothing hat ofcourse.
Dont forget to visit my portfolio at www.yeko.co.uk
This is probably my best illustration yet, it is very simple but the meaning of it and the fact that this will be all over the place.
For those of you who don't know I am Ballet West's Graphic Designer/WebMaster, well they are doing this new thing called, Sports Night at The Ballet, which I am not really sure what it means yet, but they asked me to create a sporty nutcracker, I tried a few different things, but nothing was looking good, i really put a lot of thought into this one, everyone at the office loved it, so if you walk around town, or read the newspaper and see it, remember you saw it here first

I've been really lazy, the last couple weeks, holidays, work, portfolio, family and all that cool stuff, but I am back.
Yeko Studios is what I would want to call my business when I get to that point, i saw something like this somewhere but I don't remember where, and I thought well that looks easy and cool, so i went at it, i wish i would have picked a different font cos this one is kinda thin, but oh well i think it looks good enough.

Cochinito
This one took me longer than I thought it would I was hoping to finish it in a day, but I usually finish and retouch my design in a day designs at work (hopefully no one from works actually reads this) but any ways, I give you COCHINITO
Cochinito (little piggy) I kinda wanted to play with shapes, arcs, and all that stuff on this one, adding and subtracting shapes with and from each other, i named it Cochinito because it reminded me of the Los Tres Cochinitos (three little piggy's) tale i remember watching that when i was little and the cartoons looked alot like this little guy, well i hope ya'll like it, Ale loved it.

Latinos in action is a Class/Program Both at the Jr. high and High School level, that inspires bilingual Latino students to utilize their language skills in supporting their school and district community and propels these students toward a career through education.
I went SUPER simple today, since I've been designing for this guys, thats the pattern I try to keep simple and eye catching, these are the shirts that the Utah Valley University kids will be wearing this year, I am very exited to see kids wearing'em, I hope they all like'em
I finished this at Barnes and Noble while waiting for a client, thought it wouldn't take more than two hours to complete this but i was wrong
Today's design was very special, because it was inspired by my son Ale, he drew it on a piece of paper, and we both traced it on illustrator.
He was very exited about it, everything started super cute, and lets do a cute huevo (egg) then I dont know if it was the fact that he is not over halloween yet, but he wanted sharp teeth and a crack on the egg, he even wanted a sword but we ran out of time maybe I can put one on later, when it was done he goes "PAPI THAT LOOKS EVIL" so thats where the Evil Hu
evo comes from, I had alot of fun doing this with him, he keeps talking about being a designer and wanting to make cartoons like his dad, happiness.
I also included a picture of the before and after, Ale loved it!
El Movimiento its a company that does pretty much EVERYTHING haha, they have a radio show, the dude is a DJ, they do promotions, etc. he is been asking me to do his logo for a long time, so I decided today was the day, and here it is...

Conejo
Not much to say about this wey!
I wanted to play with some gradietns see how they would work together, I used illustrator, but gave it some texture and created the background in Photoshop.
The colors are really soft I am sure this this design would be good for a kids invitation party, oh well here it is.
While browsing pictures on the computer I came across a picture from a guy doing graffiti, and it reminded me of the time when I used to do crappy gratifies on walls back home, so I said why not, drop the mouse and lets go back to color pencils and paper.
This is a graffiti of my sons name "Alessandro" Im usually not that bad at outlining or coming up with the idea, BUT when it comes to filling the art with color I ruin it, so I let him pick the colors, and this is the result.
P.D
(not that anyone cares) I misplaced my camera charger so the pictures look really crappy because they were taken with my phone, which in fact gave me the idea for tomorrows design, a picture with my phone and try making it look as if it was taken by a pro.
I am not gonna lie i got a little lazy today, but here is the design of the day.
This is the design of a taxi from back home, I made something like this along time ago in flash, I just wanted to make it a vector see how it turned out, I could probably just have exported outlines to illustrator but I wanted to re do it all.
You can also download the Vector file at:
Or click here to download the vector
Day two of Design in a Day, i was thinking about making a JellyFish, but SOMEONE Im not gonna say names (Adriana) Recommended that I illustrated my Facebook status, I was thinking about doing some characters to illustrate it but that would have taken me way more than a day, so i just decided to use typography and had fun with it, i hope everyone likes it, at some point im going to upload the PSD in case anyone wants to use this file
oh BTW my Facebook status was...
"Dance like the photo isn’t being tagged, love like you’ve never been unfriended, and status update like nobody is liking."
I decided to pick this tutorial to improve my illustrator skills i also loved the colors used for the sun, they are bright and very eye catching, and it looks very simple but nice, there are a few things I think I could change but this was good for now. I hope Ya'll like it.
I found the tutorial in some website, I wanted to give credit to the author but i couldn't find it, oh well.
